You may recall reading about a group on these pages called Tiempo Libre. If you're a Cuban coffee drinker, there's a chance they may even peek at you from the side of your can of grounds every morning as you curse the five day work week. That's right, they're those guys we told you about back here who got their faces on the Bustelo can. In fact, we at the Miami New Times have made no bones about our appreciation for the Cuban group. We've written about them again, and again, and again! And we even named them Best Latin Band in Best of Miami 2008.
Unlike your marginally attractive date from last week, who you keep calling even though they don't seem to answer the phone, be it mid-day, early afternoon, evening or 4am, Tiempo Libre is deserving of the attention. The Grammy nominated band delivers the choicest timba, a hard-grooving blend of Latin jazz with good ole' fashioned Cuban Son. For a chance to catch them live, head to their release party at La Casa de Tula this Friday, where they'll commemorate the drop of their third album Bach in Havana.
