SARATOGA SPRINGS — Saratoga Performing Arts Center will present Cuban jazz supergroup Tiempo Libre with pianist Alfredo Rodriguez for the kick-off of SaratogaArtsFest at 7:30 tonight in the Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College.

“We are thrilled to partner with SaratogaArtsFest and Skidmore College to present the energetic Cuban band, Tiempo Libre, with jazz pianist, Alfredo Rodriguez. This collaboration exemplifies the cornerstone of SPAC’s mission to introduce the arts, of all varieties, to residents of the Capital Region for what promises to be a culturally stimulating weekend festival,” said Marcia J. White, SPAC’s president and executive director.

Based in Miami, Tiempo Libre is celebrated for its sophisticated performance of timba music, a dance-inducing mix of Latin jazz and Cuban son, a combination of Spanish influences and African rhythms. Classically trained at Cuba’s premier conservatories, the members of the three-time Grammy-nominated group are true modern heirs to the rich musical tradition of their native Cuba.

Joining Tiempo Libre on the stage will be noted Cuban pianist and composer Alfredo Rodriguez, called “one of the most prolific and gifted jazz pianists of the 21st century” by Quincy Jones, who co-produced his album, “Sounds Of Space.”

Tonight’s events will also include Arts Alfresco, an opportunity for SaratogaArtsFest participants to meet artists and representatives of area arts organizations while enjoying gourmet, artisanal, and comfort food creatively paired with wine and other beverages. Arts Alfresco will begin at 5:30 p.m. with entertainment by Reggie’s Red Hot Feetwarmers, an all-acoustic band inspired by the 1920s and 30s musical era, on the Arts Quad at Skidmore College, adjacent to the Zankel Music Center.

Tickets for the show are $25, or $10 with a SaratogaArtsFest ARTSPASS. To purchase an ARTSPASS, go to SaratogaArtsFest.org. Tickets to the performance can also be purchased for $25 directly through the box office at the Zankel Music Center, www.Skidmore.edu/zankel, 580-5321.
