Tiempo Libre in London!

If you thought summer couldn’t get any better, think again. Three-time Grammy-nominated, Miami-based, timba machine Tiempo Libre will make their long-awaited London debut on Thursday 17th July at the Jazz Café (doors open from 7pm).

This is a perfect occasion to catch a live performance from a band that is always willing to experiment with new sounds. The evidence is there in the album Bach in Havana, a bold and successful effort to re-arrange pieces by the famous German composer with a Latin twist. Where others are afraid to tread, Tiempo Libre ventures with panache and brio.

Those attending the concert on Thursday 17th July are in for a treat as this high-voltage salsa machine will be playing songs from their albums Arroz Con Mango (literally, “Mango and Rice”), My Secret Radio,  Lo Que Esperabas  (“What You Were Waiting For”), Timbiando and the aforementioned Bach in Havana.

Although classically trained the musicians that make up this septet were all influenced in their younger years by the funk, jazz and rock played on American radio stations and which they could only access through aerials made out of clothes hangers.

In its thirteen-year-long existence, Tiempo Libre has championed the best of Afro-Cuban culture, developing along the way its own unique sound. The Jazz Café concert will be further proof of this.
